The Popularity Of Fishing

Fishing is a sport that crosses all barriers. Both men and women of every age, race, and social status find the sport to be a relaxing vacation from the norm or an exciting battle between man and beast. Whether you choose to fish from within your state of residence or head to the ocean for a little saltwater fishing, you will be joining the millions of Americans that also enjoy the pastime. Generations of individuals have taught each other the finer points of fishing, with techniques being passed down from father to son and from friend to friend through out history.

Some purists believe that all that you need for fishing is a rod, a reel, a line, a hook, and a little bit of patience. These individuals obtain their bait from the banks of the water they are fishing in and can have a great time doing nothing at all but waiting for the fish to bite. Other fishermen prefer to use some type of fishing tackle in their pursuit of the perfect catch. This tackle may include bobbers, which float on the water and indicate whether a fish is on the line, sinkers, and artificial bait. Artificial baits come in a variety of sizes and colors and are generally used for catching specific types of fish. They range from small plastic worms to fanciful creations that only existed in the mind of the creator before manufacture.

Many fishermen choose to participate in various types of sport fishing. One of the most popular types at the moment is bass fishing. Bass tournaments are typically held in the waters of the Midwest and they attract anglers from all over the world. The tournaments are so popular that retailers have even created a line of video games so fishermen can enjoy fishing for bass in the depths of winter. The goal of a fisherman participating in a bass tournament is to catch either the biggest or largest amount of bass within a specified amount of time which can range from several hours to several days. Fishing for bass takes some skill and a great deal of patience as they are considered one of the most finicky types of fish available. But they taste great!

Other types of sport tournament fishing occur in different parts of the country at various times of the year. There is some type of tournament occurring for almost every week of the spring, summer, and fall with tournaments for ice fishing occurring in the winter. No matter what your passion may be, there is a type for everyone and fishing can be one of the most enjoyable and relaxing pastimes available today.
